DJ Sabby, Carl Wastie and DJ SPHEctacula to #OpenYourCity with Heineken®
Heineken®, the world’s leading international premium beer, is urging South Africans to step out of their comfort-zones and explore their city.
It’s far too easy to get caught in a rut – socializing with the same people, in the same places, out of comfortable habit. But it’s often the spontaneous nights out when one tries something new that the unexpected magic happens. Finding hidden gems within your city and rubbing shoulders with a new crowd.
To kick start the movement, Heineken® is staging a series of epic city explorations in October and November in Joburg, Cape Town and Durban – and you will want to come along for the ride. Throughout the campaign there will be other events to allow a wider group to experience their City while the campaign will culminate in something really special.
“When you open your city, you open your world, which is why we’re on a quest to inspire Heineken® fans to view their cities in a totally new light. We want to ignite the imagination of urban dwellers, by inviting people to explore their metropole by simply visiting new parts of their city to see what it has to offer” says Heineken® South Africa Marketing Manager, Themba Ratsibe.
In a break from the old routine, luxury vehicles will take Heineken winners on an incredible journey through their city, with stop-offs at a number of undisclosed (and unexpected) locations, for a night to remember. Gagasi FM’s SPHEctacula will host the Durban tour, while KFM’s the Flash Drive presenter, Carl Wastie will escort Capetonian guests. Jo’burg locals will be accompanied by YFM’s DJ Sabby.
Entering is easy
Want a ticket to ride? Social media is your playground. To enter, visit @HeinekenSA on Twitter or Facebook and search #OpenYourCity for more info. More tickets are up for grabs on your favourite radio stations, Gagasi FM, KFM and YFM so tune in to win.
If you aren’t in one of these cities you can still take part! Purchase any Heineken, use the unique code on the underliner/pull tab and you could stand a chance to win a once in a lifetime trip to Miami or other prizes including Uber vouchers or the chance to open your city with an Entertainer app subscription.

World-class retail at this year’s Cell C Playing for Pink Ladies Invitational Polo
The countdown for this year’s well-established and much-anticipated Cell C Playing for Pink Ladies Invitational Polo, taking place on Saturday, 28 October 2017, has officially begun. Hosted at the prestigious Inanda Club, located in the heart of Sandton, this annual event promises to once again surprise and delight guests.
Now in its third year, the occasion will see some of South Africa’s biggest A-listers, influencers, sports personalities and all round fashion enthusiasts painting the Inanda grounds in chic hues of pink - Pink Garden, to be exact – which is the theme of this year’s event. Guests in attendance can look forward to a day of pampering, gourmet food and drinks courtesy of Diageo and Ice Tropez, all set against the backdrop of an energetic polo match. Another much-anticipated highlight of the event is a special performance by the talented, multi-award winning Mafikizolo, as well as a spectacular show by the enigmatic female rapper, Rouge, who will be performing from her newly released album, “New Era”.
Of course, at the heart of the Cell C Playing for Pink Ladies Invitational Polo event lies a great cause: proceeds from the day will be donated to Reach for Recovery’s Ditto Project. The project benefits women from low income groups who cannot afford to undergo reconstructive surgery, but are fitted with an external breast prosthesis after having breast cancer, thus restoring their dignity.
On display at the event will be a selection of high-end pop-up stores for guests to indulge in a bit of luxury shopping and peruse at their leisure. Guests can expect beautiful fashion pieces by the talented Nhlanhla Nciza and her brand NN Vintage, touch up their make up or try out the latest catwalk looks with Clarins, learn the tricks of the trade from ghd hair professionals, pamper their hands with a well-deserved express mani from SOHO, come and experience the incredible new Elie Saab fragrance ‘Woman of Now’, or spoil themselves with the latest in polo attire from La Martina.
Guests will also have the opportunity to sparkle even brighter with stunning Swarovski crystals from Jenni Gault International, experience the latest and most innovative in cellular technology with Cell C, try out sizzling shades from Erin’s Optometrists, and engage and learn from ladies who have survived breast cancer and are living strong. The cause’s resident specialist Radiologist, Dr Jowie Mbengo, will also attend the event, where guests will have a chance to ask questions and to learn more about breast health and breast screening.
“We are beyond thrilled to have these world-class pop-ups with us at this year’s Cell C Playing for Pink Ladies Invitational Polo. These stores are a great way for our guests to unwind, enjoy a bit of much needed pampering and shopping, all in a relaxed and glamorous atmosphere. We encourage one and all to come out and spend a fabulous day with us whilst supporting and changing lives for a great cause,” notes Edith Venter, CEO of Edith Unlimited.
Tickets are available at TicketPros, with general access starting at R650 per ticket and it doesn't end there, add an extra R100 to your ticket price for a spot in the after-party. The Jameson Music Video Grant Presents Impepho
The Jameson family motto – Sine Metu – means “without fear”, which is why we’ve always sided with the ones who aren’t afraid to put their ideas out into the world. We decided to put our money where our mouth is, and launched The Jameson Music Video Grant. This project challenges local directors to submit an original music video concept. The most authentic, most fearless idea wins R200K to film their music video.
This year’s Jameson Music Video Grant winner is director Carl Houston Mc Millan. His concept was inspired by Impepho, a high-energy track created through cross-continental collaboration. Impepho features musicians Morena Leraba from Lesotho and Mankind from Johannesburg.
The music video for Impepho was filmed on location in Lesotho. Impepho was shot over three days in and around the rural village of Semonkong. A passionate and tireless crew braved sub-zero temperatures to capture shots of this insanely textured world – a Lesotho very few people ever get to see.
We’re extremely excited, and proud, to share the result of this year’s Jameson Music Video Grant: an unexpected and authentic ode to Basotho shepherd culture.
Feast your eyes on the music video for Impepho:
FLYING FISH BRINGS THE CHILL TO MZANSI
If you follow me on Social Media
then you’ll definitely know what I was up to this past Sunday. What you may not
know, though, is that Flying Fish recently launched a new variant to the
market. A lighter version of the original drink with less kilojoules, calories
and less alcohol percentage - gone are the days where we drink to get drunk and
it’s all thanks to the Flying Fish Chill!
To launch this new CHILL (because
apparently there’s no chill in SA hehehe), Flying Fish took over the swanky
Urban Yard Rooftop in Bryanston, where a series of activities took place.
Kickstarting the Long CHILL experience was a thrilling beer yoga session
featuring Radio and TV personalities, 5-FM’s DJ Fix (who was also the MC of the
event) as well as Khabonina showcasing how the variant is appropriate for a
balanced lifestyle. MoGirl knows her story va! I love her to bits…

Guests also enjoyed the silent
disco party by DJ Ashley and Deep Ancestral, dancing away to what seemed like
silence but everyone tuned in to their DJ of choice. Shekhinah ended
off the LONG CHILL event with performances from her past hits, while the majority
of her performance was from her latest album titled Rose Gold. This woman is
good, shem!
