Strongbow Refreshes the Daily Commute!!

The world’s favourite apple cider, Strongbow, brought a refreshing taste of nature to the streets of Johannesburg by taking a rough, dilapidated bus stop in Rivonia, and turning it into a beautiful natural oasis.

“Strongbow is a natural cider,” explains Martine Erkamp, Senior Brand Manager at Heineken South Africa. “We believe nature is the most refreshing thing in the world, and we want to communicate that ethos by refreshing the world’s cities with nature whenever we get the chance.”

In this, the latest in Strongbow’s #NatureRemix creations, a natural sanctuary was created in the middle of bustling Rivonia. The bus stop was covered in living plants which blocked out the sounds of the city and offered shade from the sun. The sound of birdsong played from tiny hidden speakers and a gentle, cooling mist was released as people sat down to offset the summer heat.

“Living in a city is absolutely incredible” adds Erkamp, “but life in any city can get draining at times. The traffic, the noise, the hustle and bustle – it’s a lot! We wanted to give people this moment of natural refreshment to rejuvenate them so they can enjoy the city to the fullest.

We also have a lot of additional exciting projects in the pipeline where South Africans will get to enjoy more moments of natural refreshment in the months to come. Watch this space!” According to Erkamp, there’s a lot more to come as Strongbow grows in South Africa.

This project comes in the wake of Strongbow’s “Butterfly Effect” activation where 8000 biodegradable paper butterflies were dropped from the sky above Braamfontein to refresh the people below. The butterflies were embedded with indigenous seeds to bring nature back into the city.

Strongbow also created the “Inner City Waterfall” in Cape Town – a huge kinetic sculpture in the heart of the city centre that embodied the movement of a waterfall, released refreshing sprays of mist and would light up with shimmering lights every time people tweeted at Strongbow.
