Mak1One, ThingKing and Heineken® team up to shape Cape Town


The world’s leading international premium beer, Heineken®, is teaming up with Mak1One and ThingKing in Cape Town to create the experience of a lifetime – but it is your vote in the #SHAPEYOURCITY competition that will secure this memorable city shaping event for the Mother City.

Heineken®’s global campaign to transform the cities of the world sees three of South Africa’s biggest metropolises Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban competing to win an amazing experience. Heineken® has teamed up with ‘City Shaper’ teams in each city to bring this vision to life.

Heineken® selected a graffiti artist and top design team, handpicked for their cool creative credentials, as Cape Town’s ‘City Shapers’

Woodstock based creative design agency ThingKing, can best be described as a wacky designer-maker consultancy, led by Lyall Sprong and Marc Nicolson, who excel at creating ‘cool stuff’. Through the medium of design, the agency has won numerous awards and achieved success in creating quirky experiences for consumers and building unique installations for top South African brands.

Adding his stamp to Team Cape Town is Mak1One, who was born and raised in the Mother City. Not only is he a self-taught graffiti artist with twenty years’ experience, Mak1One also has the ability to bring his freehand images to life with just a wall and paint; he is also a master at painting with light, 3D chalking and 3D wall installations. The graffiti guru has received recognition for his work on an extensive range of projects throughout South Africa and abroad.



Together with Heineken, ThingKing and Mak1One’s combined creative skillsets will bring life to Cape Town’s #SHAPEYOURCITY installation, giving rise to a space that will pave the way for a once-off phenomenal event set to make the city shine.
