Save the Date for the SAMA31 Nominee Announcement
The Recording Industry of
South Africa (RiSA) is pleased to announce that it is set to kick off the road
to the 31st edition of the South African Music Awards
(SAMA) with a virtual nominee announcement that will take place on 28 August
2025. The event will mark the first major milestone on the road to the
country’s most prestigious music honours.
Nhlanhla Sibisi, CEO
of RiSA, emphasised the award’s enduring relevance: “The SAMAs are
not just about trophies - they’re about legacy, impact, and the stories we tell
as a nation through music. In our 31st year, we remain
committed to honouring the voices that shape our culture and the beats that
move our people.”
Since their inception in 1995,
the SAMAs have stood as a beacon of creative excellence, cultural pride, and
national unity, recognising the very best in South African music. As a
cornerstone of the creative economy, the awards contribute to rewarding artistic
excellence, expanding market access, driving social cohesion, preserving
cultural heritage, and promoting national pride. They are equally a force in
cultural tourism, showcasing South Africa as a vibrant destination with a
distinct artistic identity that resonates globally.
“Announcing
SAMA 31 nominees during Women’s Month carries a resonance far deeper than a
date on the calendar. It is a symbolic and strategic act - a celebration that
aligns with a time dedicated to recognising the leadership, resilience, and
achievements of women across all sectors. This timing elevates the announcement
beyond a mere procedural milestone; it becomes part of a national and global
conversation about gender equity, representation, and visibility” added
Sibisi.
By unveiling nominees during
Women’s Month, we reaffirm the commitment to honouring women’s contributions in
spaces where they have historically been overlooked or undervalued. It sends a
powerful message to young girls and aspiring leaders that excellence is
recognised, that their voices matter, and that their work can stand
shoulder-to-shoulder with the best in their fields. It is also a chance to
reflect on the progress made and the gaps that remain, using the platform to
advocate for continued transformation and opportunity.
In this context, the virtual
nominee announcement is not just an event - it’s a statement of intent. It
reminds us that recognition is not only about celebrating the past and present,
but about inspiring the future” continued Sibisi.
This year’s edition is proudly
sponsored by the Motsepe Foundation, Department of Sport, Arts and Culture,
SAMPRA, SAMRO, CAPASSO with SABC as a media partner. Together, these partnerships enable the SAMAs
to amplify diverse voices, promote inclusivity across genres, and support the
growth of South Africa’s music ecosystem.
“We are deeply
grateful to the esteemed judges for their time, expertise, and thoughtful
consideration in selecting the nominees. Their dedication to recognising
musical talent is truly appreciated,” concluded Sibisi.
The virtual nominee announcement
will be streamed live across SAMA social media platforms, offering fans and
industry stakeholders an inside look at the artists, albums, and songs that
have defined the past year.
The main awards ceremony will
take place in November 2025, promising a night of unforgettable
performances, emotional tributes, and moments that will define South African
music history.
